Problem Statements
Existing period tracking apps help users predict periods but often lack holistic support for understanding and managing menstrual health.
1.
Limited Menstrual Education
Users often lack access to clear information about menstrual phases, hormones, and body changes.
2.
Minimum Nutrition Guidance
Most period-tracking apps do not provide clear, phase-based nutritional advice tailored to menstrual cycles.
3.
Scattered Health Information
Reliable menstrual health information is often spread across multiple platforms and resources.
4.
Minimal Phase Education
Users often do not receive enough guidance to understand what each menstrual phase means for their body and needs.
5.
Generic Information Delivery
Existing apps provide static tips and articles instead of adaptive, context-aware support that responds to user needs.

What I'd Improve.
The food suggestions currently cover the essentials, but I'd expand them with a much broader range of phase-based meals to keep recommendations fresh and varied over time.
What I'd Add Next.
Future iterations would include cycle-based notifications, wearable integration, and phase-specific exercise guidance to complement the nutrition features.
What I Learned.
Designing Sakhi helped me grow as a product designer by teaching me to think beyond individual screens. I learned to consider the complete user journey, prioritize features that deliver real value, and refine the experience through continuous iteration.
Every design decision contributed to creating a product that feels both intuitive and supportive.

This case study explores the design journey of Sakhi, detailing the research, strategy, UX process, and design decisions that shaped a personalized menstrual health companion.
How did it begin?
Sakhi began as my bachelor's final year project. After spending weeks brainstorming and exploring different ideas, I kept asking myself one question: What problem is worth solving? That question led me to menstrual health, where I saw an opportunity to create something that could support women beyond simply tracking their periods.
That idea eventually became Sakhi.
So I designed onboarding to feel conversational while collecting meaningful health information.
If Sakhi is a friend, it shouldn't ask questions like a medical form.
Because personalization starts before the home screen.
